Laura Besançon

Malta
b. 1993

Maltese artist Laura Besançon was recently artist-in-residence at the ZK/U Center of Art and Urbanistics in Berlin and the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Besançon, who has a background in communications and psychology, turned towards art in her postgraduate studies and pursued a master’s degree in photography at the Royal College of Art in London, where she developed a multifaceted practice. Besançon’s works adopt a playful approach to notions such as connectivity, appropriation, reconfiguration, and shifting perspectives, as she explores the concept of the in-between and seeming dualities. Besançon was a finalist for the MTV Re:define Award by the Goss-Michael Foundation (Dallas, US, 2019), the Aesthetica Art Prize (York, UK, 2020) and the Next Thing Moving Image Award (Bury, UK, 2022) with “Alone, Together,” her participatory project going on since 2018.
