Berfin Ataman, a media artist, designer and researcher, works between Istanbul and Los Angeles, teaching digital and physical fabrication at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Ataman obtained her bachelor’s degree in theater design from the University of Southern California and her post-graduate degrees at the School of Art Institute Chicago and UCLA. She explores the impact of new technologies on humans’ relationships with their environment and the non-human. The artist uses digital and physical fabrications, including wearables or soft kinetic statues. Her works have been showcased in Europe, the United States and the CICA Museum in Korea. Ataman received the Architecture and Design Museum Design Award in Los Angeles in 2020.
